JANSSON, Tove. The Book about Moomin, Mymble and Little My. London: Ernest Benn. [1953].
8vo. Illustrated card covers with cut-outs to front and back covers; ff. [12 (unpaginated), illustrated in colour throughout]; A previous seller’s price sticker to upper board, a little spotting to spine, slight toning to first page off-set from cut-out, bottom corners a little worn with very slight insect damage to back board's bottom-left corner, inside is clean and this copy is in a particularly bright condition; very good.
First UK Edition.
Jansson’s story begins when Moomin has been sent to fetch milk for his mother, but on the way back to Moominmamma, he runs into Mymble. She is searching for her sister, Little My. Together, Moomin and Mymble venture into the sometimes unsettling woods to find her. The book is beautifully designed, and the die-cut printing makes the reader feel as though they are peeping through the woodland along with Moomin.
The book was first published in 1952 in Swedish, and this is the first UK edition. The story has been enjoyed by many generations, and in 2017, Moomin Character Ltd. Created an interactive exhibition in Sweden where visitors were physically able to climb through an enlarged version of Jansson’s story.
