Gordon Brough
Chairman
Gordon qualified as a lawyer in the City, but acquired Sotheran’s in May 2024 and acts as non-executive Chairman. Gordon has been a lifelong collector of books, albeit on a somewhat random basis. His interests are mainly modern (1922 and after) having started with the Beat Generation and extended out from there. Acquiring Sotheran’s fulfils a lifelong ambition to own a bookshop and to make this relevant to a new and varied generation of collectors.

Guido Beduschi
Early Books & Manuscripts
Managing Director
Guido completed his PhD in History at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, with a focus on scholarship and information in early modern Europe. After an internship at Christie’s in the Books and Manuscripts department, he spent a year working at Bernard Quaritch. He joined Sotheran’s in 2024 and now works primarily in the early printed books department. Guido was appointed Managing Director in January 2026.

Chris Saunders
Natural History & Sciences
Director
Chris Saunders joined Sotheran's in 2004 as the Saturday boy after completing his bachelor's degree in English at Oxford University and then a PhD on the work of the poet Edward Thomas. Cataloguing a collection of Charles Darwin books inspired him to specialise in natural history and the sciences. He became a director of the company in 2018. His own collecting interests are early twentieth century poetry and nineteenth century natural history.

Fraser Brough
Art & Avant-Garde
Non-Executive Director
Fraser has worked as an art dealer and advisor at galleries, auction houses and private dealerships since graduating from the Courtauld Institute in 2014. In 2021 he opened CASSIUS&Co., a gallery and rare bookshop in Belgravia where he continues to present exhibitions of Modern and Contemporary art alongside concurrent presentations of rare books, which are offered in partnership with Sotheran's. Since 2025, Fraser has organised the programme of art exhibitions at Sotheran's Athenaeum.

Clarice Brough
Non-Executive Director
Clarice Brough earned a liberal arts degree from Brown University. She currently works for a single-family office, where she is involved in supporting investment and operational activities. In her capacity as a non-executive director Clarice focuses on strategy and change management as well as marketing the business more widely.

Richard Shepherd
Prints & Posters
Richard joined Sotheran’s in 2010 having previously worked at The O'Shea Gallery after obtaining a degree in Business Administration from Brighton University. Specialisms include Travel Posters and luggage labels, primarily from the Golden age of the 1920s and 30s. Ski posters from Switzerland and Irish posters from Donegal are personal areas of interest.

Georg Kastl
People & Places
After having studied humanities with a focus on history of arts in Augsburg, Georg entered the rare book trade in 1994 as an apprentice at a Munich book auction house, then decided to move into the retail trade. His first such employer was Bernard Quaritch in London, and he has been in the London book trade ever since. In 2013 he joined Sotherans, mainly dealing with books of travel, exploration, geopolitics and history. He considers himself a Londoner, as he loves walking this ever changing urban landscape.

Ian Prince
Literature & Poetry
Ian joined Sotheran’s in 2025 after a period in York working for Lucius Books, having previously worked as a bookseller in London. He studied English at the universities of London and York. His particular passions are sixteenth and seventeenth century English literature, contemporary poetry, and the works of Samuel Beckett.

Aoife Godsave

Cecil Court Store Manager
Aoife completed her bachelor’s degree at Christ's College, Cambridge. In the later part of her degree, she specialised in Victorian literature. Aoife spent three years working at Adrian Harrington Rare Books. She joined the Sotheran's team in 2025, and works in the literature department. She particularly enjoys cataloguing novels from the nineteenth century.

Hanna Sammanthan
Bookseller
Hanna graduated from the University of Southampton in 2024 with a BA in English. Her undergraduate dissertation took the form of a creative writing project inspired by the folklore of Malaysia, her home country. She joined Sotheran’s in June 2025 and currently works at the Cecil Court shop, where she is developing her skills as a bookseller.

Kate Allan
Early Books & Manuscripts
Kate completed her doctorate in English at Exeter College, Oxford, in 2023, specialising in seventeenth-century women’s scientific writing. She joined Sotheran’s in 2025 following a year at Bernard Quaritch and a brief interlude as a postdoctoral researcher working on scientific poetry from the Renaissance to the Enlightenment. She now works primarily in the Early Books and Manuscripts department, with a particular focus on English books.

Stephen Jaques
Conservator
Stephen is our resident restorer ensuring that everything presented by Sotheran's is at its very best. He joined the company over thirty years ago and developed the skills necessary from restorers at the British Museum as well as bookbinders who frequented the shop. Stephen is a painter attending Derby College of Art and Canterbury College of Art and has exhibited widely; exhibitions include Saatchi Gallery, Ruskin Gallery Cambridge and the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.

Susie Marshall
Photographer & Designer
Susie completed her undergraduate degree in 2023 studying English at the University of St. Andrews. In 2025 she completed a postgraduate degree in Creative Writing and Publishing at City, University of London where she worked on her own writing as well as studying print production. She started working at Sotheran’s part-time in 2024 alongside her degree, and now works full-time as their photographer, and manages the design and production of catalogues.
