GRAVES, Robert. The Golden Fleece. London, Cassell. [1944].
8vo. Original cloth, spine lettered in gilt, with the rarely-seen illustrated dust-wrappers, not price-clipped, map endpapers; pp. 370, [2]; the wrappers with marginal tears and a little loss with repairs, very few and tiny spots due to wartime paper quality; a very good copy of a rare Robert Graves title.
First edition. This is the British novelist's re-telling of the epic of Jason and the Argonauts, a series of sea voyages the Greeks believed had taken place two generations before the fall of Troy. Graves, as folklorist and mythographer conveys a world of slaughter and copulation interspersed with comic scenes.
