The First Twenty Years consists of one extended interview with J.G Ballard recorded in his house in 1975, (thanks are given for the afternoon and the copious amounts of beers he generously offered his inquisitors). He also writes a brief introduction to the bibiography. Accompanying this initmate foray into the mind of a legendary writer are contributions from prestigious names; Brian Aldiss, Michael Moorcock, Ian Watson, Peter Linnett, James Carnell as well as editors James Goddard and David Pringle.
It serves to be an essential and extensive bibliography of all of Ballards published fiction and non-fiction through the end of 1975 as well as a meticulous selection of articles and reviews all of which have been curated for reprint from magazines.
"Any serious attempt to classify or distribute the works of J.G Ballard among literary genres is difficult…Above all, Ballard is a 'contemporary' writer" (Preface: James Goddard and David Pringle).
