"Art for Tàpies is not a decorative object, it is a philosophical system of language" writes Deborah Wye, curator in the Department of Prints and Illustrated Books at The Museum of Modern Art, New York. Created as a special edition for the exhibition "Antoni Tàpies in Print" at MOMA, 7 May – 9 August 1992, her extended essay incudes conversations with the Catalan painter and art theorist Tàpies in his Barcelona studio, and binds biographical content alongside artistic excavation. In dialogue with the Wye, Tàpies himself contributed to the book with unique pieces.
