    • In the ‘Less Common’ Binding Variant

WODEHOUSE, P.G. A Few Quick Ones. London: Herbert Jenkins. 1959.

8vo. Publisher’s blue cloth, lettered in black to spine, in unclipped illustrated dust-jacket (second state, priced 7/6 to front flap); pp. 207, [1 (blank)]; extremities of jacket a little worn; slight foxing to edges of textblock; overall very good.

First UK edition, second state, in the ‘less common’ variant binding (Connolly), of this collection of ten short stories, previously published in various British and American magazines.

The stories feature members of the Drones Club and other familiar Wodehouse characters, including the Oldest Member, Mr Mulliner and Ukridge. Their order differs from that of the first US edition. The UK first edition also replaces ‘A Tithe for Charity’ with the previously unpublished story ‘Unpleasantness at Kosy Kot’.

According to McIlvaine’s Addendum, the first state of the UK first edition contains a typographical error near the foot of p. 196, where ‘uever’ appears instead of ‘never’. This error was corrected in the second state, as in the present copy.

      Connolly 104 (i); Mcllvaine A82b and Addendum, p. 2.
