The author Thomas Schreiber (Tamás Schreiber) had been Hungary correspondent for a French newspaper during the 1956 uprising and the crushing thereof by the Red Army. He witnessed the destruction of three big hotels in Budapest the the bloodshed theat spread almost through the entire country. He therefore was able to write the most up-to-date guidebook for the coutry behind the Iron Curtain.
