First UK edition. Peary's 1905-6 attempt on the North Pole by way of Smith Sound was sponsored by the Peary Arctic Club, of which Peary offers an account in the present book. Adverse weather conditions thwarted the attempt, but Peary was able to explore the northern coast of Ellesmere Island.
