First edition of a very rare narrative of missionary life among two ethnic groups in one of the more remote parts of India, Balaghat (Madhya Pradesh), populated by semi-nomadic Gonds and Baigas. McMillan was very fond of the indigenous population, their religion and way of life and travelled widely. Of course on the way a tiger was hunted down. In the chapter titled Unclaimed Wealth the author hints at the discovery of rich mineral deposits in the province.
