MacDIARMID, Hugh. Lucky Poet. A Self-Study in Literature and Political Ideas. Being the Autobiography of Hugh MacDiarmid (Christopher Murray Grieve). [London]: Methuen. [1943].
8vo. Original drab paper wrappers with printed label to front cover and the author mis-spelled 'Macdairmid'; pp. xxiv, [2], 426; wrappers a little spotted and lower panel with marginal repair, occasional light spotting internally, a good copy.
Pre-publication proof copy. This autobiography had been for years in the making. "A lengthy and wildly idiosyncratic autobiography" (ODNB), it had to be shortened for the eventual publication in 1943. MacDiarmid at times is ranting against publishers, literary circles and writers. Page 172 had to be cancelled and changed in later issues.
