Holland was a remarkable and overlooked traveler in the desert, in this case in the Negev. In March, 1878, Mr Holland set out into the desert with three Arabs and three camels, and travelled 1000 miles on foot within 53 days. The editor published here Holland's logbook covering the journey from May, 6 to May, 23. The map, the best of the time of the Negev, is the result of this arduous exploration.
