The hotel opened in 1913 on the shores of Lake Annecy. The hotel offered sporting activities, including yachting and fishing and three times a day an orchestra would play on the terrace.
Famous guests include various Royalty, Winston Churchill and Charlie Chaplin. In the 1950's the hotel started to lose money and it was put up for sale as an apartment building when the hotel closed in 1967.
After many years of neglect the city of Annecy restored the building and in 1991 the Imperial Palace was opened as a congress centre, hotel and casino.
