Dorcas Whipple is a wealthy heiress, but despite her comfortable position, she’s in emotional turmoil. The novel begins the night before her wedding, and she is torn between her love for the “ne’er-do-well” Ronald Drew and her respectable fiancée Jevan Locke. After meeting with Ronald for a final goodbye, Dorcas believed it would be the last she would hear of him, but the following morning’s papers are smeared with news of murder…
The UK edition was published the year after the US edition which appeared in 1938, published by Doubleday. This copy has an especially bright and beautiful dust-jacket, its design emblematic of the golden age of crime fiction.
