First UK edition. A dreamlike post-apocalyse narrative from the American author best known for Little, Big (1981) and his Ægypt series of novels. It was nominated for the 1980 National Book Award for hardcover science fiction, as well as both the British Fantasy and John W. Campbell Awards the same year. Inscribed by the author thus: "For Philip — I'm happy to have been able to sign a copy for so devoted a reader - they are not many, and precious to a writer. John Crowley, October 2000". The recipient is Philip Horowitz, brother of the author Anthony Horowitz, from whence Sotherans aquired this copy.
