8vo. Original cloth, spine lettered in gilt; pp. xii, 419, lithographic frontispiece, four lithographic plates, folding table and two folding lithographic maps; binding a little worn, spotting internally; otherwise good.

First edition of an accurate account of General Robert's operations in Afghanistan, based on the diary of Major Collett, assistant quartermaster-general. The Kurram Field Force had been created by Roberts (later Lord of Kandahar) during the first phase of the Second Afghan War. Captain Colquhoun was present at the battle of Peiwar Kotal, which after British victory opened the route to the interior of Afghanistan and towards Kabul. This battle brought Roberts international recognition and laid the foundation of his lasting fame.
