Very rare first edition in English. An important work presenting survey of Russia at the end of the reign of Catherine the Great, including physical descriptions, notes on the economy, statistics, foreign politics and the social organization of the increasingly stratified population. Chantreau was French historian, journalist, grammarian and lexicographer, as well as a supporter of the Revolution.
