Max Walters (1920 - 2005) was the Director of the University Botanic Garden in Cambridge and co-author of two New Naturalist volumes, Wild Flowers and Mountain Flowers, and sole author of one, Wild and Garden Plants. He was also one of the series' editors from 1981 until his death.
