BAWDEN, Edward (illustrator). Hold Fast By Your Teeth. London; Routledge & Kegan Paul Ltd. 1963.
4to. Original pictorial boards, in pictorial dustwrapper; pp. [64]; with pictorial title-pages and a profusion of other coloured illustrations throughout, including many full-page, all printed by autolithography; externally and internally near fine with tiny bruising and mild rubbing to spine ends and forecorner tips, without ownership marks or inscriptions, in a generally fresh, unclipped dustwrapper (18s) with rubbing to forecorners, a tiny closed tear (1cm) to bottom edge of lower panel, and an area of light brown staining to top edge of lower panel and spine (100 x 50mm) really only visible on the inside and resulting in mild rippling of the paper.
First edition of Edward Bawden's first book for children. This is a collection of nine individual stories which were originally written and drawn for the artist's children. He eventually redrew the images for this publication. The tales are "amusing and heartless, such as any good father would like to be able to tell and to sketch if he had the ability" (dustwrapper blurb).
