Original publisher's blue cloth with dark blue lettering; yellow dust jacket with black and purple titles; pp. [vii], 216, [2]; slight fading and foxing to front board, offsetting from front and rear pastedowns, prior ownership label stamped to front pastedown alongside 'The Holliday Bookshop' label to rear; browning to dustjacket spine and minimal loss to top with foxing to top and foreedge, otherwise very good.
Henry Christopher Bailey was an integral English crime novelist of the 'Golden Age' alongside Agatha Christie. Although most famous for his series based upon a medically-qualified detective called Reggie Fortune, he also serialised the character Mr. Clunk, a dubious lawyer exposing mostly political crime whilst often benefiting from them himself (and also with a penchant for singing Methodist hymns). The Little Captain forms one of the riveting Mr. Clunk investigations.
