Silver City Airways launched the Worlds first cross Channel air car ferry in July 1948, flying cars and passengers from Lympne, Kent to Le Touquet, France. They used Bristol freighter aircraft. The flight took just thirty minutes.
In 1953 Bristol superfreighters were introduced, expanding capacity to three cars plus rear seated passengers. After 1960 heavy financial losses led to absorption into British United Air Ferries.
