ANON. Skiers fly Swissair, "the holiday route to the alps."
Original luggage label, c.1950. 75 x 240 mm.
Swissair was established in March 1931 and by 1947 had become the official national carrier of Switzerland. It had established a reputation for reliability, luxury and precision but was perceived by many as an airline catering to the rich and famous heading to the famous ski resorts.
After the second World War, Swissair had to change that perception and become more inclusive. In 1948 with the devaluation of the British pound, fewer people would travel from the U.K. Traffic up to that time had accounted for forty per cent of Swissairs revenue.
Its customer base now had to appeal to a wider audience. New initiatives, including new crew uniforms and more comfortable seats were introduced. A new tourist class cabin was introduced on intra - European flights.
D.C. 6B is aircraft depicted on label.
Rare.
