ANON. Riviera Palace, Nice.
Original hotel luggage label, c.1929. 120 x 120 mm.
The Riviera Palace Hotel was designed by architect Sebastian-Marcel Biasini in 1889. The hotel was located on a one hectare park on Boulevard de Cimiez. The hotel was owned by the Compagnie Internationale des Wagon-Lits (CIWL).
By the 1920's Nice had become very popular not just as a Winter resort but also a Summer destination. CIWL had introduced the Calais-Mediterranee Express (Blue train) in 1886 which carried most of the wealthy customers staying at the various palace hotels. After the second World War the hotel was converted to apartments. The building has mostly kept its Belle Epoque charm.
