The hotel was founded by Cesar Ritz in collaboration with French Chef Auguste Escoffier in 1898. The hotel is located on Place Vendome and was constructed behind the façade of an 18th Century townhouse.
It quickly established a reputation for luxury and attracted Royalty, Politicians and film stars. Several of the hotels suites are named after famous guests, such as Coco Chanel, who lived there for much of the Second World War. The cocktail bar is named Bar Hemingway.
