The Hong Kong Hotel was Hong Kongs first luxury hotel, modelled after sumptuous London hotels. It opened in 1868 on Queens Road and Pedder Street, later expanding into the Victoria harbour waterfront.
The hotel provided a launch to meet arriving passengers on incoming ships and Ferry them direct to the hotels pier. Before the Japanese invasion of Hong Kong in December 1941, it was one of the assembly points where civilians and Government officials had to assemble for the evacuation to Australia. The hotel closed in 1952.
