The hotel opened in 1895 and was first known as the Grand Hotel Britannia. It later became Hotel Europa and Regina. The hotel was formed by joining five historic Palazzi along the Grand Canal with the oldest dating back to the seventeenth Century.
It was the first hotel in Venice to have electricity. Monet visited the hotel in 1908 and Giuseppe Cipriani, founder of Harrys Bar worked at the hotel.
The hotel today is known as the St. Regis Venice.
