The railway company operated from 1857 to 1942 in the Bengal and Assam provinces of British India. The Eastern Bengal railway Co was incorporated by an act of the parliament of the United Kingdom in 1857, with the objective to introduce railway transport in Eastern Bengal.
In 1942 the government of India merged the Assam Bengal railway with the Eastern Bengal railway to create a new company, now known as the Bengal and Assam railway.
Only a very few examples of this label are known to have survived the past 100 years.
