EIDEM, Paul Lock (1902-1992). Norway, Pulpit Rock.
Original lithograph with colour, linen backed, published by Norges Statsbaner (NSB), printed by Norsk Lith. Officin, Oslo, 1935. 1000 x 620 mm.
The scene is a vibrant, almost fantastical interpretation of an iconic Norwegian landscape. At centre stage is what appears to be Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen) — exaggerated for dramatic effect — with two small figures standing at the edge, gazing across a serene fjord. (Lysefjord). Below, a steamship cruises the still waters, while a railway line daringly tunnels through the cliffside — a delightful, surreal twist not found in reality, but wonderfully imaginative for travel promotion.
Some fold marks, and long tear that has been restored.
