Publisher’s stiff green wrappers with white wrap-around title label pasted on, lettered in light blue and green, with printed price of 75 cents to back of wrapper, saddle-stitched by a single wire staple, inscribed by the author to the copyright page in blue ink; pp. 32; sunning to white label with some spotting and markings, white mark to front of wrapper, corners a little bumped with crease to front wrapper’s bottom right corner; a little spotting to first and last two leaves; very good.
First edition, first impression with the intimate inscription from the author, ‘For my dearest Bet / With love from / Denny. / March ‘57’.
Denise Levertov spent most of her life as a poet after deciding to pursue the art form at the age of twelve. She sent a collection of her poetry to T.S. Elliot, who responded to the young girl with a letter of encouragement. Her poetry was frequently published in Black Mountain Review. Here and Now is her second published collection of poems, and the first to be published in the United States.
This edition has no printing notice to the rear cover, and the white wraparound label is a separate piece of paper pasted onto the green wrapper, indicating that this is a first edition.
