With the Erroneous Half-Title
WODEHOUSE, P.G. Jeeves in the Offing. London: Herbert Jenkins. 1960.
8vo. Publisher’s red cloth, lettered in gilt to spine, in the illustrated dust-jacket with printed price 13/6 to front flap; pp. 205, [3 (blank)]; edges of jacket lightly worn, publisher’s laminate of jacket rippled to spine folds, minor toning and spotting to edges of textblock, slight pushing to spine ends; very good.
First UK edition, first printing, with the erroneous half-title, of the eighth Jeeves and Wooster novel.
In this story, Bertie finds himself at Brinkley Court with Sir Roderick Glossop and Bobbie Wickham, while Uncle Tom’s prized silver cow-creamer goes missing.
As noted in Mcllvaine, due to an error in the publisher’s assembling and binding process, the half-title reads ‘A Few Quick Ones’. The error was later corrected, and subsequent issues of the first edition contained the corrected half-title.
