8vo. Publisher’s light brown cloth lettered in dark green, text to spine and upper board within cartouches, dark green borders to upper board, in a facsimile dust-jacket; pp. 303, [1 (blank)]; dampstaining to fore-edge of upper board with fading to borders; the odd mark, light foxing to first and final leaves; a good copy; old bookseller’s ticket of the Old Corner Book Shop, Boston, to front free endpaper.

First US edition in book form, first printing, following the adventures of impoverished and embarrassment-prone Archie Moffam.

First published in the UK a few months earlier, the novel finds Archibald ‘Archie’ Moffam (pronounced ‘Mo’om’) beset by problems with his wealthy father-in-law, a recurring Wodehouse device. It was adapted from eleven short stories first published in Strand in the UK between March 1920 and February 1921, and, with one exception, in Cosmopolitan in the US between May 1920 and February 1921.
