First edition, first issue, of this anthology of avant-garde German poetry including contributions by Ingeborg Bachmann, Günter Grass, Paul Celan, and Helmut Heißenbüttel.

A series of translations, New Young German Poets was Jerome Rothenberg’s first ever published book and number eleven in the Pocket Poets Series, established by Ferlinghetti in summer 1955. In 1959, Rothenberg established The Hawks Well Press with which he published his own first collection of poetry, White Sun Black Sun.
