Original blue cloth, spine lettered and ruled in gilt; pp. x, 295, four maps (two folding), plates after photographs; light marking to cloth, spine darkened and with bumping and slight fraying to head, occasional spotting, offsetting from tissue guard of frontispiece to title-page, scattered spotting; provenance: General Lionel Charles Manners Smith (1898-1975), with his name in ink, dated 1919 on front fly-leaf.

Scarce first edition. The official correspondent with the Egyptian Expeditionary Force here gives an account of the campaign in Palestine. "The book, in fact, tells the story of the twenty-third fall of Jerusalem, one of the most beneficent happenings of all wars …" writes Massey in the preface. T.E. Lawrence reviewed the book in the Oxford Magazine in 1920.
