Having died a few years earlier in 1989, Robert Mapplethorpe’s 1992 retrospective at London’s Hayward Gallery was a major exhibition in the history of photography. This catalogue was produced to mark the occasion and in collaboration with the exhibition’s curator, Italian art historian and critic Germano Celant. It reproduces a comprehensive collection of Mapplethorpe’s black and white photography, signature portraits, erotic figure studies and colour floral still lifes.
