First UK edition. SEX was published the day after the release of Madonna's fifth studio album Erotica and was designed to promote her new, edgier, more avant garde image. Steven Meisel's photography draws on Helmut Newton and Robert Mapplethorpe rather than mainstream porn, and depicts models such as Isabella Rossellini, Naomi Campbell,Vanilla Ice and Madonna herself in hotels and burlesque venues in New York and Miami. The book covers sado-masochism, nudity and sexual exploration and clearly hit a nerve; it sold 150,000 copies on its release day. This copy has never been removed from its wrapper.
