The text contains selected extracts from Americans including Benjamin Franklin, James Fenimore Cooper, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Poe, and Mark Twain. Clay curated this collection in the hope of introducing modern American culture to Britian, to strengthen the partnership between the two nations.
