The hotel opened in the early part of the twentieth Century. It was originally designed to attract wealthy visitors during the Winter months who were seeking a milder climate, but with the advent of the Jazz age in the nineteen twenties its clients now started to visit during the Summer months.
Like its counterparts the Hotel Belles Rives and the Hotel du Cap, the Hotel Royal soon attracted the famous, including Scott Fitzgerald, Hemingway and Marlene Dietrich.
