The Carlton Hotel located on the Croisette opened in 1911. It was designed by architects Charles Dalmas and Marcellin Mayere. Grand Duke Michael Mikhailovich of Russia contributed to the financing of the hotel.
The first conference of the league of nations was held here in 1922. The hotel closed in September 2020 for extensive renovations and reopened in March 2023. The hotel celebrated its grand re-opening in May 2023 during the Cannes film festival. Celebrities in attendance included Michael Douglas, Helen Mirren and Naomi Campbell.
