The hotel was created in 1860 by the mineral water company under the name Grand Hotel des Bains. After the hotel had been extended and a new floor was added in 1897 the hotel then became the Hotel Splendide. It was now classed as a Palace hotel with 230 rooms.
Some of the most renowned guests were Sarah Bernhardt, Gustave Eiffel and Marcel Proust.
The hotel was destroyed in 1983.
