4to. Original red cloth with bevelled edges, lettered and ornamented in red and balck, top edge gilt, others uncut; pp. x, 332, 50 tinted plates, 50 in colour, all with captioned tissue guards, 400 small illustrations in the text, spine a bit faded, light toning to endpapers; otherwise very good.
First and limited edition, number 168 of 500 copies, signed by the artist. 'A joint production with Collier of the USA. The text was set in America and flat sheet shipped to Britain.The illustrations were engraved and printed in Britain and similarly shipped to the USA [for the US issue]. Wash blocks and line drawings were made and printed in the USA' (Inman 91 on the standard edition).
