It had previously been published in the US in The Saturday Evening Post on 28 October 1939. Other stories in this collection had appeared in This Week, Argosy, The National Home Monthly, The Cosmopolitan, but three stories are published for the first time in this collection: ‘The Shadow Passes’, ‘Up from the Depths’, and ‘How’s That, Umpire?’
