In 1968, the cult science fiction classic 2001: A Space Odyssey was released to great acclaim. It won an Academy Award, and was nominated for four Oscars. Stanley Kubrick and A. C. Clarke worked concurrently on the screenplay, their projects intertwining and inspiring one another. The novel was published shortly after the film's release.
