    • STRÖMHOLM, Christer. Poste Restante. Stockholm, P.A. Norstedt & Söner Förlag. 1967.

4to. Original dark grey cloth, lettered in silver to front cover and spine, in photo-illustrated white dust-jacket; pp. [116]; photo-illustrated throughout; minor bending to front corners of boards, jacket slightly sunned with small nick; indentation to internal flap of jacket and adjacent pages (from where photographer business card had been fastened by metal clip); a nearfine copy in good dust-jacket; signed and inscribed in ink by Strömholm to front free endpaper ‘Till P.G. fran vännen Christer - nov 67’; with photographer’s business card loosely inserted.

First edition, first impression, signed and inscribed by the photographer; Christer Strömholm’s best-regarded publication.

One of the most collected photography books of the twentieth century, Poste Restante details Strömholm’s extensive travels across the world. An early example of the photobook using portraiture, street scenes and abstract photographic fragments to build an autobiography and manifesto, Poste Restante was one of the most influential photobooks of the twentieth century. In their The Photobook: A History, vol. I, Martin Parr and Gerry Badger write that ‘sex and death and rock and roll is an apposite description of the book’s tenor, as indeed it is for much stream-of-consciousness photography and for the increasingly self-focused diarist modes that followed’.
