"Collage=Reality". This is a beautiful compilation - or in itself a collage - of fiction and poetry from 22 contributors, all inspired by the art and legacy of Joseph Cornell. Each contributer, a diverse assembly of persons as varied as Siri Husvedt, Diane Ackerman, Barry Lopez and Joyce Carol Oates, have signed their contribution and each piece of response comes accompanied by a a tipped-in color photograph of one of Cornell's works.
Joseph Cornell was a New York sculptor and artist who was famed for his avant-garde collages, which he would centre in glass-fronted boxes. True to the books title, Cornell had an obsesion with birds and would create a series of boxes in which vibrant images of birds were mounted against harsh, white backdrops.
