8vo. Original publisher’s blue paper covered boards with publisher’s device stamped to front board, blue cloth spine with silver titles to spine enclosed in blue dustwrapper, pp. [xi], 3-1079, mild rubbing to top and bottom of spine, otherwise fine copy.

First edition, first printing.

A fine example of the cult author's magnus opus, having sold more than a million copies worldwide, 44,000 hardcover copies in its first year of publication and provoked a myriad of literary discussion.

Following the writer’s suicide in 2008, journalist D.T. Max wrote of the diversity of Wallace’s talent in The New Yorker, "His novels were overstuffed with facts, humour, digressions, silence, and sadness. He conjured the world in two-hundred-word sentences that mixed formal diction and street slang, technicalese and plain speech; his prose slid forward with a controlled lack of control that mimed thought itself".
