Nicknamed the "father of science fiction", H.G Wells was also responsible for an eclectic outlet of literature. Both written and illustrated by Wells, The Adventures of Tommy was inspired by a period of illness during which the author was considerably bored and, on finding a box of paint in his children's bedroom, set about the task of completing this delightful narrative within a matter of days. It is affectionately dedicated to a close friend's daughter, "Respectfully dedicated to/ Miss Marjory Hick/ by her sincere friend and admirer".
