An original pen-and-ink illustration on white paper onlaid by the artist on white card depicting a little girl with an anguished expression, drawn within ink-ruled border, created to illustrate Beside A Norman Tower by Mazo de la Roche (Macmillan 1934); unmounted; image size 80 x 100mm (card size 28 x 37.5cm), signed by the illustrator in ink together with image caption and faint pencilled border in pencil, to margins, in the artist's hand, with light dusting and some marking, confined to margins far from the image, and a vertical crease between onlaid paper for sketch and ink-ruled border (hence not affecting the image itself); reproduced full-page on page 139 of the book.
