Small 8vo. Original boards with printed labels to front cover and spine; pp. 181; portrait-frontispiece and 15 plates after photographs; binding error with pages 49-56 bound in twice; spine a little darkened, a little age-toning to text leaves adjoining plates, a very good copy.
Privately printed first edition, presentation copy, inscribed in pencil on the flyleaf: “To Dr. and Mrs. Rowell with friendliest regards C. B. W. March 2 1940”. The author’s travels to Japan, China (Hong Kong, Beijing), Sri Lanka, India (including Darjeeling with a view of Mount Everest and “Kinchinjanga”), and a few pages on the return journey through North America to her home in Tarrytown, New York. 'Cousin Cornelia [1859-1947], widow of Worcester Reed Warner, patron of the arts and philanthropist loved her home "Hillholm" in Wilson Park, Tarrytown and was close friends with next door neighbor John D. Rockefeller. Co-donor of Warner Library and donated to Patriots Park and Philipse Castle. Benefactor to Cleveland Museum of Art and the Case School of Applied Science. Community leader in Cleveland as chairman of Day Nursery and Free Kindergarten, of the advisory council of the College for Women, Western Reserve University. Founder of the Fortnightly Musical Club and the Institute of Music, an organizer of the Charities Clearing House and a charter member of the Women's City Club. They loved to travel and many of their extensive Asian art treasures have been donated to the Cleveland museum' (Find a Grave).
