Vandeleur's accounts of his military experiences in Uganda on the Upper Nile, notably against the Arab slave station in Southern Unyoro, and of his various expeditions on the Niger and the Nile. He also offers descriptions along the way of the people and country through which he passes, i.e. introducing British rule by force.
