This historical novel with elements of romance interwoven is located in and around Jumby Hall 'one of the finest estates in the Danish West Indies' (p. 9). The plantation was owned by the De Vigne family, one patriarch being married to a much younger Creole woman. The story takes place in the 1840s with labour riots and race relations are always more than just the backdrop.
