Two parts in one volume, large 4to. Original cloth, lettered in gilt; pp. xxi, [2], [2] frontispiece and 135 plates; [2], ix-xi, 14, [2], [2], 27 plates, a very attractive copy with ownership inscription by Julia Warde-Aldam, dated 1910.

Second edition, or issue, after the Caxton Publishing imprint, dated 1905. The first preface is dated 1906, the second 1904. This uncommon work is by A. & C. Black's most prominent designers of bindings, the American book designer. The majority of the plates are signed with Turbayne's scarab. The second part of the volume is of designs of alphabets.
Provenance: Julia Warde-Aldam, a South Yorkshire estate owner, benefactor and hospital commandant. She was described as a flamboyant benefactor with a fondness for seances, and had a collection of over 2000 bookplates.
